Shakespeare’s Globe theatre burns down.

In 1613 during a performance of “Henry VIII” sparks from a cannon ignited the thatched roof of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre.

Years later, in 1926. the “Shakespeare memorial theatre” in Stratford-upon -Avon also burns down in a fire.  A new one was commissioned and was awarded to Elizabeth Scott where it stands today. Recently it was re-furbished at an eye watering £113 million.

There are three other theatres in Stratford: “The Swan”, re-opened in 1986, “The Other Place” a small studio theatre and an open air theatre nearby.
